ParticiPAINT is a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates professionally designed murals with children in pediatric hospitals.
We create an original mural specifically for the hospital. Our Lead Artist draws the complete artwork directly onto the wall and prepares it as a simple, color-coded painting experience.
Then the children take over. They choose a color. Find their section. Pick up a brush. And paint. No artistic experience required.
Something they can help create
In a hospital, so much of a child's world is decided for them. Where they go. What happens next. Who enters the room. Even the walls surrounding them were chosen by someone else.
ParticiPAINT gives them something they can help create. For a moment, the child isn't simply a patient receiving care. They're an artist contributing to something bigger than themselves.
Their brushstroke matters. Their color becomes part of the story. Their contribution remains on that wall long after the painting experience is over.
From their brushes to a work of art
When ParticiPAINTING ends, the professional transformation begins. Our Lead Artist develops what the children have painted through color, shading, dimension, highlights and detail until the mural becomes a finished professional work of art.
But their contribution is never erased. We build upon it.

Create
We draw and color-code the original mural.

Patients paint alongside families, staff and our artistic team.

Transform
Our Lead Artist professionally develops the children's painting into the finished artwork.

The completed mural is officially unveiled to the hospital community.
Professionally photographed and filmed — a story your hospital can share with patients, families, donors and media.
Proven at Shriners Children's Boston
At Shriners Children's Boston, an empty wall became an underwater world through a five-day ParticiPAINT experience.
We began with the original artwork drawn directly onto the wall. Young patients added the color. Our artistic team then transformed their contributions into the completed mural through professional finishing and refinement.
The finished artwork became more than a new hospital environment. It became their mural too.

ParticiPAINT is designed to remove the financial barrier for children's hospitals. Selected installations are supported through private donors, philanthropic partners and corporate sponsors — the hospital and its patients experience the complete ParticiPAINT program at no cost to the hospital.
